District 214 Hosting All-Years Homecoming at Former Arlington High School Sat. September 23, 2017 at Christian Liberty Academy

Arlington High School grads are invited to return home to their former high school "Arlington High School" which is now the home to Christian Liberty Academy.

The event will take place at the former Arlington High School building, now Christian Liberty Academy, 502 West Euclid Avenue in Arlington Heights. The nostalgic trip home will feature an alumni band, The Cardinals, playing hits from the 1960s through 1984. Recent music is limited to 1984 to commemorate the year Arlington closed its doors, due to decreasing enrollment in the high school district.
District 214 is hosting Arlington High School All-Years Homecoming Saturday, September 23 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The former Arlington High School (currently Christian Liberty Academy, 502 Euclid Ave.) The event is free, but registration is highly encouraged. Reserve your tickets here.
The event will take the form of a high school homecoming, with plans in the works for a basketball scrimmage and opportunities to don the traditional Arlington “war paint” (face paint) and decorate a large chicken wire A with tissue paper, reminiscent of the homecoming parade floats. Memorabilia, including yearbooks through the decades, will be on display; select classrooms will be open for viewing and photographs; and a photo booth with Arlington props will be available. Additionally, Arlington alumni will be recognizing fellow cardinals who have served their community and their country beginning at 10 a.m.

Arlington T-shirts will be available for sale, and refreshments will include cookies created by Elk Grove High School culinary students using an original chocolate chip recipe from the Arlington High School cafeteria. Additional concessions also will be available.

Tickets are free, but advance registration is encouraged. All graduates from all years of Arlington are invited, and families are welcome. To register, visit www.d214.org/alumni. Note the band will play from 1 to 3 p.m.; bring your dancing shoes! Arlington High School, the first school built in District 214, educated generations of proud Cardinals before closing in 1984 amid sinking District 214 enrollment. The homecoming event is led by the District 214 Alumni Advisory Council, which works to advance alumni engagement across the District. Money raised at the event will benefit the District 214 Education Foundation, which supports student success, innovation and lifelong learning across District 214.

Homecoming will include:

Music: Bring your dancing shoes! "The Cardinals" and "Wooden Lix" will play from 1 to 3 p.m. in the cafeteria, performing an acoustic, eclectic mix of popular music from 1960 through 1984, the year the school closed its doors. Athletics: Plans include a Grace Gym basketball scrimmage featuring current District 214 athletes wearing Cardinal red and white. Mums ... and a Float: We'll have a chicken wire block "A" ready to decorate, along with giant white mums and red face paint (AHS "war paint"). The real cookies: We've discovered an original AHS chocolate chip cookie recipe. Enjoy the familiar taste and take the recipe home. Arlington Gear: Purchase a new Cards t-shirt to show off your spirit! Memories: A hallway of memorabilia and decades of yearbooks will be on hand. You'll also be able to visit upstairs classrooms and walk throughout the school. Concessions will be available for purchase. Get event updates by joining our Facebook event "Arlington Homecoming: All-Class Reunion" via the official District 214 Alumni Facebook page (Facebook.com/d214alumni). Proceeds from concession and t-shirt sales benefit the District 214 Education Foundation, supporting innovation, student success and lifelong learning District-wide.
